Letter: Will regs ruin Mt. Misery?

Letter: Thanks for the Mt. Misery memories
Thursday, March 24, 2005

I just learned that as of April 4, dogs must be leashed at Mt. Misery. Hearing this, I realize that my reasons for going to Mt. Misery are over and I want to thank you for a wonderful few years.
We have two Labrador Retrievers and they have loved the swimming, playing and meeting of people and dogs these past years. The joy, exercise and socialization they received at Mt. Misery will be missed. Furthermore, the off-leash training they received at Mt. Misery - come, sit, stay - amidst the distractions of other people and the outdoors will be hard to duplicate. Most of all, they will be sad at the closing of the best woodsy and watery places where dogs could be off-leash in our area.
My family, which includes myself, my wife, our two sons, and our two dogs, will also miss our family time at Mt. Misery. We visited once or twice a week. All of us enjoyed the outdoors and the unencumbered play. Our sons would run with the dogs or play fetch with them. My wife and I enjoyed the hiking and watching our children outdoors and having fun. Having Mt. Misery for all of our family improved the quality of our life.
So again, thank you for the past few years. I am sure we will find other places, perhaps less convenient but there must still be some, where our family can go and our dogs can be off leash and in the company of other dogs and friendly people.
