When Samm Miller of Sudbury found out about the proposed dog regulations at Mt. Misery, she knew she wanted to be involved in the process.
"Every time I'm there I think about how much I enjoy it and how I would love to be involved in keeping it a good place to go," she said.
Miller is behind the Friends of Mt. Misery, a group she established with the goal to help education Mt. Misery users about taking care of the environment.
"I saw the brochure that the trail burners had done with the Great Brooks conservation commission, and I thought that it would be great if we had our own group," she said.
Miller said she decided to create a small Web site to reach out to a few people and see if there was interest.
"There are probably 50 people who are interested," she said.
Miller said she hopes the group can work with the commission, and possibly help Mt. Misery users police themselves once the regulations are determined. She said the group can also educate people who come in from out of town that there are other places they can go where they can take their dog off lead
"I wanted to present an organization that would help to present a compromise solution, and to give them more of a volunteer base of people to work with," she said.
For the future, Miller said she would like to see the organization be an ongoing group of people that takes an active interest in Mt. Misery, promoting cooperation among all users.
"I don't foresee it as just a dog owners group," she said. "I see it as a nature lovers group, with a bunch of people who own dogs."
